One word cannot describe Leeder-Carlson's artwork, one image does note portray the diversity of this artist. Helen thrives on variety, in subject matter and mediums, such as acrylics, oils, watercolour, pastels and mixed media. She has challenged herself with a wide range of subject as a realist painter and commission artist, with a predominant passion for the ocean.
This artist also believes that a painting is not so much about being liked, but about making the viewer stop, pause and contemplate the image, for the painting to stir some feeling, emotion or thought. Helen is continually growing as an artist and moving more towards surrealism, abstract and symbolic art.
Helen has been painting for 32 years, obtaining TAFE Advanced Certificate in Art and Design during 1988/89/90 where she was awarded Most Outstanding Student for each year. In 2011 she updated her studies by completing Certificate IV in Art and Design, mostly with recognition of prior learning.
Leeder-Carlson takes commissions, exhibits regularly and taught adult art classes at the historic Vancouver Arts Centre in Albany for 12 years.
